Poem – “Clarinet Mouthpieces”

Clarinet

Mouthpieces

have you ever found that they always
sound absolutely perfect until you

decide to play in public.
they want to rewrite the music.

however they can be gently coaxed
by a talk and treat beforehand.

you can make them obey like a dog
learning a trick if you reward them

after every performance. repetition is not required
but recommended unless squeaks are in your song.

do not scold them because this
makes them quiver like mice and they

squeak just as much. not very pleasant.
when left to their own devices they are

usually very lazy and will sit all alone
like a hermit. they must be trained

and broken in to produce good sound
and combat sleepiness. once one has

chosen the path of laziness they will
often collapse during use. recovery is uncommon.
