Whether it be Milhaud’s spiritual influences, the misadventure of Strauss’ merry prankster or the symphonic breadth of Spohr’s writing, an evening of fine music is assured.

ensemble SECESSION is comprised of the finest players in WA, including Margaret Blades, WASOAssociate Concert Master and other WASO Principal instrumentalists, with significant international experience including the Vienna Symphony and Vienna Classical Players. ensemble SECESSION is inspired by Schoenberg’s desire to perform symphonic pieces in a chamber setting.

Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks is a tone poem by Richard Strauss (1864-1949) chronicling the misadventures and pranks of the German peasant folk hero, Till Eulenspiegel.

In Dreams of Jacob French composer Darius Milhaud (1892–1974), hints at jazz whilst drawing inspiration from the biblical account of the stairway to heaven. Jet Whistle, Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887–1959), is a cello and flute duet, chromatic and cool, with a range of nuanced moods over three movements.

Nonet, Louis Spohr (1784–1859), celebrates Sphor’s gift of lyricism and gracious melody by way of symphonic form.
