CASSWA is a community of clarinet and saxophone enthusiasts that supports projects that will benefit clarinet and saxophone performance, provides opportunities for the exchange of ideas, materials and information among its members and encourages and promotes the learning, teaching and performance of a wide variety of repertoire and skills for the clarinet and saxophone community in Western Australia.

Allan Meyer
Chairperson (Clarinet)

Allan Meyer has been Chairperson of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of WA Inc. since its inception in 2009. Allan is Section Principal Clarinet with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 1990. His distinguished career has seen him perform throughout Australia as well as in Massachusetts, USA. He has been guest Principal Clarinet with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (USA).

 

After 7 years with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Allan returned to Perth as Principal Clarinet. In 1997 and 1999, Allan performed and taught at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) in the USA. He performed in the Musicorda, Mohawk Trail and Williamstown Chamber Music Festivals. In Perth Allan teaches at the UWA Conservatorium of Music and the WA Academy of Performing Arts.

 

Allan has appeared as soloist with WASO on many occasions and has premiered works by Australian composers James Ledger, Iain Grandage, Richard Mills and Andrew Schultz. He has also performed with the Escher String Quartet. In 2016 he performed the Mozart Concerto, a work he has performed many times with WASO, as part of a regional tour conducted by his former student Christopher Dragon. Christopher is now Resident Conductor of the Colorado Symphony and Music Director of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra.

Mia Vuković
Secretary (Saxophone)

Having finished her undergraduate and honours studies at the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Western Australia, Mia Vuković has continued her studies by undertaking a Masters of Secondary Teaching.

 

Mia enjoys teaching numerous students around the Perth area and believes passing on knowledge to others is vital in creating and inspiring the next generation of musicians in Perth and beyond. Along with mentoring and teaching, Mia also has a passion for performing and chamber music, winning the Flora Bunning Chamber Music Prize and performing at the 2018 World Saxophone Congress with the Meraki Saxophone Quartet.

 

Mia has also performed with the Aura Saxophone Quartet, Perth Saxophone Collective, the Australian Saxophone Orchestra and the Hills Symphony Orchestra; coupled with Jazz and Contemporary performances with the Metro Big Band and Oz Big Band.

Andrew Elliot
Social Media (Clarinet)

Andrew has been on the CASSWA committee since 2018 and serves as CASSWA’s social media and website coordinator.

 

Andrew has played the clarinet since the age of 9 and graduated from the UWA Conservatorium of Music with an Honours in performance in 2017. He has since been a private clarinet tutor, working at multiple schools around Perth.

 

Andrew has done regular performances with many different ensembles including the West Australian Charity Orchestra, Fremantle Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Pops Orchestra and was a soloist as part of the Wesley Music Scholarship program in 2016.

Jacqueline Edwick
Vice-Chairperson (Clarinet & Saxophone)

Jacqui is Vice-Chairperson of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of WA and has been on the committee since 2011. She completed a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Western Australia, studying Clarinet with Lorna Cook and Saxophone with Amanda Johnson. 

Jacqui is a Level 3 Classroom Teacher at Instrumental Music School Services, and currently teaches the Clarinet from Years 5-12 and directs a Concert Band and Jazz Band. She has taught K-12 Classroom Music and the Clarinet and Saxophone from beginner to Year 12 level. 

Jacqui spent several years teaching Classroom and Instrumental Music at Busselton SHS, which involved a lot of performances and tours to California, New Zealand the Northern Territory. She has performed the Clarinet and Saxophone in a Limelight Theatre production of 42nd Street and been a member of a brass band and community concert bands. 

Jacqui enjoys sharing her love of music with her students.

Tania Swan 
Treasurer (Clarinet & Saxophone)

Tania has been a committee member since the inception of CASSWA in 2009.

A WAAPA and ECU graduate, Tania has been employed as a woodwind specialist, conductor and classroom teacher with the Department of Education WA since 1988. 

Tania has been a member of community bands and orchestras including The Australian Wind Orchestra, and also as a musician in The Australian Army Band Perth (11 years’ service).

Tania has toured to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and many states of Australia - performing and conducting in a large variety of bands and ensembles.

When not teaching or playing clarinet, Tania’s passion is travel and spending time with her family and friends.

Matthew Kidd 
Committee Member (Clarinet & Saxophone)

Matthew Kidd completed a Bachelor of Music (Classical Performance) at the University of Western Australia in 2000, where he majored in Clarinet with the WASO Principal Clarinet, Allan Meyer.

 

Matthew has performed as a clarinettist in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Western Australian Symphony Orchestra, WA Philharmonic Orchestra, Perth Symphony Orchestra, Perth Pops Orchestra and the Western Australian Youth Orchestra on all sizes of instruments from Eb Piccolo to Contrabass clarinet. He has played with conductors such as Simone Young, Ascher Fisch, Nicolette Fraillon, Vladimir Verbitsky, Richard Mills, Mathias Bamert and Paul Daniels.

 

In the theatre, Matthew has performed as a clarinettist and saxophonist in over 10 shows, including the Australasian tours of Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon, plus Perth productions of Annie Get your Gun, and Guys and Dolls.

 

In 2003, Matthew performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major K. 622 at St Georges Cathedral in Perth to critical acclaim.

 

Since completed his studies, Matthew has performed most of the clarinet chamber music repertoire in concerts throughout Western Australia, featuring works by Messiaen, Mozart, Brahms, Bartok and Weber, as well as the solo repertoire of Weber, Brahms, Debussy, Poulenc and Schumann with regular accompanist Adam Pinto.

 

Matthew has been broadcasted by ABC Classic FM in Young Australia with the Messiaen ‘Quartet for the End of Time’, the Friday Recital and the Sunday Live segments, as well as performances of Australian solo and chamber music works at ‘New Music Week’, the ‘Totally Huge New Music Festival’ and the ‘Hearnow! Festival of New Music’ in Perth.

 

In his capacity as an educator, Matthew has taught Clarinet and Saxophone in primary and secondary schools, plus conducted primary and secondary Jazz Bands, Orchestras and Concert Bands at many concerts and festivals. He is active in arranging music for school ensembles, with his latest project being a flexible ensemble devoted to the classic Soul music of the 60’s and 70’s.
