Clarisax Feast 2015

Join fellow clarinet and saxophone enthusiasts at CASSWA’s seventh annual ClariSaxFeast, featuring the music of British composer and saxophonist Andy Scott. In 2015 welcome back Ashley Smith as guest clarinettist, Allan Meyer (clarinet), Dr Matt Styles (saxophone), the WA Clarinet Quartet and the Perth Saxophone Collective.

Join us for a day full of workshops, ensemble playing, and performances by fantastic musicians. See product displays from our musical sponsors and mingle with fellow musicians of all ages. There will be opportunities to play (in a friendly and non-­threatening group environment!) so make sure to bring your instrument.

Cancellations

Please note that CASSWA incurs non-­recoverable costs per registration; All cancellations will therefore incur a $5 cancellation fee. Cancellations made on or after 10 June are fully non-­refundable.

2015 program

9am: Registration

9:30am: Welcome.
Sax ensembles with Dr Matt Styles;
Clarinet ensembles with Wayne G’Froerer

10:30am: Morning tea break. Sponsor displays open.

11:15am: Workshops.
Saxes with Matt Styles and a surprise special guest: Back to Basics; Tips for Ensemble Playing.
Clarinets with Ashley Smith, Allan Meyer, Sue King & Wayne G’Froerer: Back to Basics; First time with an Accompanist; Clarinet Masterclass.

12:45pm: Lunch break. Sponsors displays open.

1:30pm: Grand Concert featuring our surprise special guest playing the music of Andy Scott, Ashley Smith, Matt Styles, Perth Saxophone Collective, the WA Clarinet Quartet and the ClariSaxFeast Wind Ensemble.

A light morning tea will be provided; please bring your own lunch or money for the on-site coffee and snack van.

UWA Opportunities for High School Students

Engage!
Engage! is our newly revived exhibition program for talented young musicians aged 14-17. Under the direction of Prue Ashurst and School of Music Faculty, the program is designed to extend students who have a high aptitude for music, and help them to excel even further. A wide range of topics will be covered including: aural and musicianship training, music history, choral study, performance and composition.

The cost of the 10 week program is $350. Please pass on this information to any student who may be interested! A number of scholarships are available, so please let me know if you have a student who might benefit from this?
 
School holiday programs
We will be running our yearly ‘Day in the Life of a Music Student‘ on Monday 13 April, which gives students in year 10-12 the opportunity to spend the day on campus participating in a range of activities. Participation is free but places are limited. Students can apply here: http://www.studyat.uwa.edu.au/about/events/DITL/april/music

 

We will also be opening up a number of classes during the school holidays for students to observe (and where possible participate) alongside our current students. These include:
